TORONTO – A vigil was held Wednesday for two teen boys who were shot to death outside a townhouse unit in North York on Friday.
Sixteen-year-old O’She Doyles-Whyte died at the scene Friday afternoon outside a Toronto Community Housing townhouse development called Yorkwoods Village on Grandravine Drive, near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West.
He had ridden his bike to visit his friend, Kwame Duodu, 15, who was also shot and died later in hospital.
Family and friends held candles in memory of the two teens and walked from the sight of the shooting to a community centre.
The candles were then placed on the ground, spelling out the names of both boys.
“I shouldn’t have to look at his name,” Stephanie Whyte, the mother of one of the victims told CityNews as she stood next to the burning candles. “I shouldn’t be here. O’She should be with us right now.”
Surveillance video captured three suspects who were seen fleeing the scene on bikes. Police say the bikes have been located. But the suspects are still at large.
Family members continue to plead with the public to come forward to police with any information on the shooting.
Funerals were planned for the victims this weekend. They were the city’s 38th and 39th homicide victims this year.
