Ford stops McCallion from falling during fishing derby

When it comes to fishing stories, everyone likes to talk about the big one that got away.

However, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford managed to hang on to his trophy catch at the Great Ontario Salmon Derby, and no, we’re not talking about salmon, but his Mississauga counterpart, Mayor Hazel McCallion.

Ford and McCallion were on the Salmon Express II on Lake Ontario when “Hurricane Hazel” almost got pulled into the lake by a 16-pound salmon.

“I lost my footing because that line just bent as far as it could bend,” the 92-year-old McCallion said.

“I couldn’t stand on my two feet, so I lunged forward of course, and Rob Ford was standing right behind me — all the men were — and he just grabbed me, thank goodness,” she said.
