Mayor Rob Ford has requested a special meeting with council members on Aug. 26 to discuss the best process of filling the vacant seat in Ward 3, Etobicoke Lakeshore.
Mayor Ford believes that a by-election is necessary to ensure the residents of Ward 3 have proper representation at City Hall.
“In the coming weeks and months, City Council will be wrestling with a number of vital issues, including the 2014 Budget,” said Mayor Ford in a statement.
“These important decisions will have significant impacts on the everyday lives of Toronto residents. A by-election is the only way to ensure the 52,000 residents of Ward 3 have proper representation at City Hall during these crucial debates.”
Ford will host a community consultation meeting on Aug. 21 from 7-9 p.m. at Silverthorn Collegiate.
Residents in Ward 3 will have the chance to voice their opinions on whether they prefer a by-election or appointment process.
