$2M of cocaine found in Pearson airport washroom

Border officials found 16 bricks of cocaine worth about $2 million taped to ceiling tiles inside a men’s washroom at Toronto Pearson airport last month, Royal Canadian Mounted Police say.

Agents with the Canada Border Services Agency found the 18-kilogram stash on June 17.

The drugs – wrapped in plastic and covered with orange and white tape – were found alongside a cellphone, batteries, a charging cord and a battery charger in an overhang above a stall.

“Toronto continues to be a shipping and trans-shipping point for local and other point drug smuggling,” RCMP Insp. Dean Dickson said in a statement.

“We are working together to ensure that we can address this smuggling.”

Goran Vragovic, the CBSA’s GTA director, said “attempting to smuggle drugs is simply not worth it.”

“CBSA officers work diligently to prevent anyone from using international airports for illegal cross-border activities,” Vragovic said in a statement.

No suspects have been apprehended yet, but police continue to investigate.
