Maple Leaf Gardens sex abuser Gordon Stuckless faces new charges

TORONTO – Gordon Stuckless — the man at the centre of the Maple Leaf Gardens sex abuse scandal — is now facing 23 new charges after more men came forward alleging they were abused in their youth.

Stuckless, 64, turned himself in Tuesday to York Regional Police.

Police have charged Stuckless with 12 counts of indecent assault on a male, three counts of sexual assault and eight counts of gross indecency.

In 1997, Stuckless was convicted for sexual assaults on 24 boys while he was an usher at Maple Leaf Gardens between 1969 and 1988. He was sentenced to two years less a day. The sentence was increased to five years later. He was paroled in 2001 after serving two-thirds of the sentence.

Over the past year, several more men have come forward with allegations of abuse. Stuckless now faces more than 70 criminal charges.

Police said five men came forward to report sexual assaults that date back about 30 years following the arrest of Stuckless in March.

Police said the accused was in contact with boys at schools and through minor sports in Toronto and Thornhill and Oak Ridges in the same time period.

Investigators also believe that the suspect had contact with young boys through a hockey summer camp that used to be held in Haliburton County.

Police believe there may be more alleged victims and are urging them to come forward.

Stuckless is set to appear in court Thursday in Toronto.
