Jeopardy! turns 30, Trebek talks to 680News about show’s success

It’s one of the greatest game shows ever created. “Jeopardy!” will be celebrating 30 years on the air when it returns to CHCH this fall.

680News Showbiz editor Gloria Martin caught up with host Alex Trebec at Toronto’s Real Sports bar and found him to be humble about his three-decade reign on the popular game show.

“Certainly (I’ve had) a lucky career,” he said.

Celebrity guests have been a big part of the show.

“Michael McKeen, Andy Richter, Cheech Marin – he won our very first celebrity tournament and he is a quiet , soft spoken, intelligent, sophisticated human being. Kareen Abdul Jamar – he’s very quiet, very knowledgeable, very competitive and did not like not winning.”

Alex Trebek was born in Sudbury, Ontario and hosted a number of shows including “Music Hop” and “Reach for the Top” before taking the helm on “Jeopardy” in 1984.

He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Canada’s Walk of Fame.
