American extradited to Canada to face G20 charges

An American alleged to belong to the Black Bloc protest group has been extradited to Toronto to face charges related to the G20 Summit in 2010.

Toronto police arrested Dane Rossman, 26, of Tucson, Ariz., when he arrived in the city on Friday.

Police say he is one of dozens of protesters – many wearing disguises – who went on a window-smashing rampage through downtown Toronto during the international summit in June 2010.

It’s alleged he used the frame of a traffic sign to smash a Starbucks window while customers were inside – and that he did so while wearing a black bandana to cover his face.

He has been charged with mischief over $5,000, mischief endangering life and disguise with intent.

He was due in court on Saturday morning and again on Monday.

More than 1,100 people were taken into custody that weekend in one of the largest mass arrests in Canadian history, although most were released without charges.

However, more than 40 people have been successfully prosecuted for their parts in the rampage.

Police say suspects in the violence included five Americans who went back across the border after the summit and have since been apprehended.
