Hudak: Liberal budget will ‘dig the hole deeper for all Ontarians’

TORONTO – Conservative Leader Tim Hudak is slamming the provincial budget as a sell out to the New Democrats.

He says the Kathleen Wynne government is doing nothing to cut the province’s debt.

“[Wynne] and the NDP are identical twins when it comes to how you solve the issues of the province,” he said.

“Look, we got a debt crisis in our province. Nothing about a Liberal-NDP coalition is going to help solve those fundamental problems.”

He says Ontario needs an election “to bring forth a government that lives within its means and it’ll focus on bringing good jobs back to the province of Ontario.”

“We can do a lot better than this. Today, the Liberal government chose to continue down a path that’s going to dig the hole deeper for all Ontarians.”

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath sees several of her party’s ideas in the budget but no guarantees the Liberals will follow through.

“For them to show Ontarians that they’re serious about actually achieving the results that they talk about and that’s what causes me some trouble.”

Horwath says her ideas on job creation and auto insurance premium breaks are included in the budget but her proposals on cost-cutting were ignored.

“Like closing specific corporate tax loopholes — this budget contained none of our cost-saving proposals.”

Horwath plans to hold the Liberals accountable but isn’t clear on how she’ll do that.

“Today’s budget reflects our proposals. Now we want to see accountable results.”
