Events to be held across the city for National Poetry Month

Roses are red, violets are blue, April is National Poetry Month, so let’s rhyme too!

A number of events are taking place this month to celebrate poetry, primarily hosted by the City’s Poet Laureate, George Elliot Clarke.

Clarke will be participating in several of the events as well as lunching his new book of poetry.

“Our Poet Laureate is an active and exemplary emissary of Toronto and our world class literary community,” said Coun. Michael Thompson. “National Poetry Month provides him with an excellent platform to draw attention to our thriving arts sector throughout the city, across the country and overseas.”

Clarke will participate in the following events in April:

-April 2: Kickoff for National Poetry Month at the Q Space at College and Borden
-April 3: Judging at the fifth annual Battle of the Bards for Poetry NOW at Harbourfront Centre
-April 4: Performing a short reading in support of the Mayor’s Poetry City Challenge at the Toronto City Council meeting at 9:30 a.m.
-April 11: With poet and playwright Pamela Mordecai at Brock University
-April 15: Poets Pamela Mordecai and Andrea Thompson at a National Poetry Month reading at the Toronto Reference Library
-April 24: Launching his new book of poetry, “Illicit Sonnets”, in London, England
