Canadian Olympians to help with Daily Bread spring food drive

It’s the Easter long weekend, which is a time when many people will sit down with family and friends for a big meal.

There are some in the GTA who don’t have enough to eat, however, and you’re being asked to think of them as the stores re-open after the Good Friday holiday.

The Daily Bread Food Bank’s spring food drive continues this weekend, and on Saturday several Canadian Olympians will be helping out with the stocking.

Among those athletes helping out Saturday – London 2012 bronze medallist Mark Oldershaw.

There will be plenty of other people helping out as well, with the food bank saying they are full for volunteers for stocking.

So if you’re taking a trip to the store Saturday, Daily Bread officials are asking you to pick up something that could help the thousands of Toronto residents who rely on the food bank to eat.

Gail Nyberg from the Daily Bread Food Bank told 680News what they are looking for this Easter season.

“We’re looking for stuff like canned fish or meat, pasta sauce, pasta, hearty soups and stew, peanut butter,” Nyberg said.

They also need cash for things like gas for the trucks that deliver the food.

The spring drive ends on April 6, with goals of $200,000 and 100,000 pounds of good this time around.
