TORONTO – A documentary all about disappearing repertory cinemas is seeking a home — in a repertory theatre.
“The Rep” director Morgan White says his film belongs in revival theatres, known for carrying niche, genre, cult and classic films.
To that end, he’s offering his film to rep theatres for free, and says they’ll also get any profits from screenings they host.
White called on cinema fans, theatre owners and programmers to request the film at their local theatre.
“The Rep” follows three film geeks as they struggle to operate a single-screen theatre in Toronto competing with big box multiplexes, home video and on-demand entertainment.
It features commentary from directors Kevin Smith, John Waters, George A. Romero and Bruce McDonald.
