Suspect sought after girl, 8, sexually assaulted in North York

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police were canvassing a North York neighbourhood on Tuesday — a day after an eight-year-old girl was sexually assaulted while walking to school.

The girl was walking alone to Denlow Public School, where she is a Grade 3 student.

Police say a man grabbed her by the hair, told her he had a knife, and then sexually assaulted her in the Leslie Street and York Mills Road area around 8:15 a.m. Monday.

The suspect fled on foot.

The girl was shaken up, but not injured, and was able to run to her school and alert teachers.

“We are going door to door speaking to anybody that might have information on anyone suspicious hanging around in the area,” Det. Const. Theepan Vilvanathan said Tuesday.

The suspect has been described as white, 19-22 years old, five feet six to five feet 10, with a thin build, large nose and short, black, spiky hair.

He was last seen wearing a plain, black, long-sleeved shirt, black silky pants and black shoes.
