TORONTO – It’s the last weekend of winter before spring arrives next Wednesday, but Mother Nature isn’t exactly going easy on the GTA.

Spring officially arrives at 7:02 a.m. ET on Wednesday, March 20.

The cold temperatures are expected to drag out until spring arrives next week Wednesday.

“Temperatures not really out of the ordinary. It’s just that we haven’t had a cold winter for the past couple of winters with snow, and when you get the snow and the cold air, it certainly seems a lot worse than it actually is,” 680News meteorologist Jill Taylor said.

She also said it could be tricky Monday into Tuesday with a potential mix of rain and snow.

Last March, it was a different story, according to Taylor.

“Last March, it was exceptionally warm. Those temperatures last March were certainly unprecedented — that warm spell went from Manitoba to Nova Scotia and record temperatures were broken all over the place,” she said.

Meanwhile, city-run outdoor skating rinks will be closed for the season at 10 p.m. Friday. The city’s ski hills will also be closed this weekend.
