Stargazers will get an opportunity to check out the comet Pan-STARRS, Friday.
It’s expected to pass within 160-million kilometres of Earth — the comet’s closest approach in its first ever cruise through the inner solar system.
Stargazers might be able to spot it next to the moon at dusk in the western sky. Click here for the Virtual Telescope.
If you miss this one, an even larger comet is set to pass by the earth in November.

I thought that planet Earth was 149 million kilometers from the Sun.
160 million km is further than that.
That’s correct. Pretty close, considering the size of solar system is about to 12 billion kilometers.
So? It’s close enough to the sun, and to us, to be visible to the naked eye. That isn’t very common, and is a VERY close pass.
