Raptors and Leafs tickets to jump in price for 2013-2014 season

It will cost you more to catch a Leafs or Raptors game next season, after Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) announced it was raising tickets prices for both teams by about 2.5 per cent.

In a release, MLSE called it an “inflationary increase” and noted that the Leafs have not raised prices since the 2009-10 season, while Raptors tickets have actually dropped over the past five seasons.

“We are fortunate to have a loyal and committed season seat base for all of our teams,” said MLSE President Tom Anselmi. “Our costs continue to increase and we intend to continue spending on players, coaches, scouts and facilities to ensure that our teams have every resource they need at their disposal to win.”

The increases will affect both single game and season tickets starting in 2013-14.

The news isn’t sitting too well with some of the sports fans in the city that 680News and CityNews spoke to.

“It’s already pretty hard for the average person to go to the game, I think.  With the increased ticket prices I think it’s going to push out even more common kind of fans,” one fan told 680News.

On Twitter, Paul Carr said: “After the strike and only half a season I don’t see why (Leaf) tickets should go up, but in the end people will pay.”
