Cardinal Marc Ouellet, of La Motte, Quebec, is considered by many to be a front-runner in the papal election.
It was actually a hockey injury that helped Ouellet find the path to priesthood, according to Pam Seatle of CityNews.
As a talented teenage hockey player in small-town Quebec, Ouellet used to spend a lot of time on the small outdoor rinks in the area.
During a game at age 17, Ouellet caught his skate in the ice and fell and broke his leg. It was during his recovery Ouellet says he began to spend a lot of time reading and praying.
This led to the now papal candidate finding his calling.
Journalists have now flooded into La Motte, and the basement of his old church has now been transformed into a makeshift media room.
Another problem with all the media showing up in the town of 500 is the fact that no hotel exists for them to stay.

im all for spirituality but organized religion is a joke. more politics than belief. chosen by god, yet really its just a 2/3 majority vote? as someone who grew up catholic, im confused. lets all live by the single tenant of “dont be a jerk”. is that so hard? do we need to be duped into hell to be civilized? ancient tradition and modern society are not compatible, which is why we should be reflecting on how forbidding marriage or sexual relations of any sort for priests may backfire and result in the molestation of youth. as someone who grew up on the inside, im just sayin’. much love, jedi or buddha, lets just enjoy the ride.
The reason he joined priesthood is as a result of hockey injury ?
