TORONTO – Mayor Rob Ford continues to deny former mayoral candidate Sarah Thomson’s allegations of inappropriate touching, while Thomson responds by saying she won’t be intimidated.
On his call-in radio show on Newstalk 1010 on Sunday, he briefly addressed Thomson’s claims he had made inappropriate comments and groped her at a gala on Thursday night.
“I don’t want to waste any more time on this. It’s not true,” Ford said on Sunday.
“I don’t know if [Thomson's] playing with a full deck … When people want to make up stories, that’s their prerogative and we’ll leave it at that.”
Shortly after Ford made the comments on his radio show Thomson took to Facebook, saying this kind of reaction to sexual assault is a step in the wrong direction for women’s rights.
“Women used to be called ‘hysterical’ or ‘crazy’ when they claimed a sexual assault” this made many stay silent. Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has just done the same to me and in so doing taken us back generations!”
In an official statement released Sunday evening, Thomson called the mayor out for previous instances where he had denied his actions, only to admit to them later.
“Mayor Ford has lied publicly numerous times. He denied the drunken incident where he verbally assaulted a Durham couple during a hockey game but later admitted to it. And During 2010 civic election campaign he denied being arrested for pot possession in Florida and then admitted it and another DUI charge,” she said.
“The Mayor has a history of denial but usually owns up to his mistakes once the facts become overwhelming and I expect that he will eventually own up to this one.”
On Friday, Ford released a statement staunchly denying the allegations.

Statement from Sarah Thomson, March 10, 2013
Early Friday morning, I posted a photo to my Facebook and reported that Mayor Rob Ford made suggestive comments and groped me at a CJPAC party.
Since then, the Mayor, his supporters and conservative media agencies have denied my claims, impugned my character and attacked my credibility.
I did not make these accusations lightly. I admit I did not handle the press perfectly, but I had just gone through a very rattling experience.
Over the past few days people have accused me of hating the Mayor and this I must repeat is not the case. I have always found him to be respectful, somewhat shy, but professional. While things have been competitive between us, I have always appreciated his stand on the need for subway expansion.
I am not the kind of woman who sees chauvinism everywhere or believes in reckless denunciations. But Mayor Ford was behaving inappropriately, and there was clearly something wrong with him during the CJPAC event.
He must be discouraged from over indulging to the point where he is groping or making lewd comments, and women should not put up with it when it happens. The Mayor was outrageous, he acted horribly, and I won’t be intimidated by the whitewashing he has tried so hard to generate.
Decades ago powerful men who sexually assaulted women would call them “hysterical,” or “crazy” to debase their credibility. It pushed many assaulted women into silence. Today Mayor Ford stated that he wondered if I was “playing with a full deck” try to discredit me. He will not push me into silence and I hope his accusations do not re-ignite the old fears that once silenced women.
We need an ongoing dialogue to ensure respect for women in the workplace and to create an inclusive and safe society for all.
Unlike the Mayor, I do not have a history of lying about my behaviour. Mayor Ford has lied publicly numerous times. He denied the drunken incident where he verbally assaulted a Durham couple during a hockey game but later admitted to it. And During 2010 civic election campaign he denied being arrested for pot possession in Florida and then admitted it and another DUI charge.
The Mayor has a history of denial but usually owns up to his mistakes once the facts become overwhelming and I expect that he will eventually own up to this one.

It’s obvious that this lady is pretty desperate for attention. If this really happened she would have called the police. This is another attempt by the extremist left wing to make Ford look bad when they have nothing legitimate to pin on him.
Is the taxpayer paying for these 2 bumbling politicians in-fighting.?’
Does the majority of the taxpayer know that it is their money that is paying for these 2 buffoon politicians’ salary?
Unfortunately, if Sarah is an assault victim she has not handled it in a way that helps her. I hope women who are dealing with sexual assaults learn how to better handle this. It isn’t bad to come forward with a complaint. Document occurences. Get witnesses if possible. Take your complaints to the police. Have DNA swabs taken. If you make a formal complaint about someone, there is a record of complaint. Even if they are found innocent, sexual predators are likely to reoffend. Complaints can add up and eventually lead to convictions and permanent records. Anyone who is truly suffering sexual assault please don’t lose faith in filing a formal complaint.
Just let he man do his job for God sake. Having him got to court every other week is not going to help Toronto. If she is so offended by this which I don’t believe happened she should have pressed charges right away or maybe even made a seen at the event in which it happened. That didn’t happen and it seems she is just looking for attention. This is becoming ridiculous. I’ve never seen a Mayor hated so much by his opponents that they would go to any extreme to get him out of office. He is working for the people and not for them. I will vote for him again.
Just yet another ‘event’ in the litany of Rob Ford events. Even if this one is an unsubstantiated claim. As Bogart said in the Maltese Falcon “Maybe some of them are unimportant. I won’t argue about that. But look at the number of them…”
WELL What do you know … we’re still at it !!!
The old witch hunt by the lefties at City Hall and the “lets get Rob ” crowd,,, by any means possible ..
They are such a Lame bunch .. I think that Rob should lay charges on these people ..
Who would think that the gravy train is so important to these $&%&*
Let’s face it,these leftwingers will try anything. They can’t beat him at the ballot box so try harassing him.eg court case with free legal and maybe more court with free legal.Leave the man alone and let him.continue saving taxpayers money. We need more like Rob in elected office from top to bottom.
@ Sarah Thomson
If you did it properly about the alleged action by Mr Rob Ford a lot of people might have believed you.
First you don’t post it on facebook or twitter what are you a teenager?
Second you would confronted the Mayor and asked him for appology on what he did? or was it accident, when you take a picture everyone gets close together.
Third you don’t wait until next morning and decide to tell the radio station, or did you talk to someone about it and then persuade you to take action?
Just my thoughts.
I agrre with Rita. Never mind looking at how he looks, did you see her on the news on Friday and she thinks people would want her to represent the city. She really needs to get a life and find another job because I know I wouldn’t want somebody that looks like you to represent where I live. And why haven’t you taken the lie test yet or told you’re story to the police. Leave the mayor alone and let him do what he was elected to do. In the last few months he is not able to do that because of the low life that tries to get him out of office and you think you would get a vote. Yes from the loosers like you all that tries to get him out of the office. Maybe you need to get a real job, one that would keep you busy.
Just like a typical woman feminist she craves attention and sympathy. She’ll get no where, cause she is naive.
Does anyone actually think that Rob Ford would be stupid enough to have touched another womans behind and know someone would be there to take a picture of it. this man is probably a very happy family man, with nice children. For God’s sake leave the mayor alone and let him get back to running toronto. Oh by the way about the pic comment, he looks wasted, I unfortunately had my picture taken once by a photographer that said I was distraught over an event, actually my head was down thinking of something totally different, pictures can be deceiving. I am from Mississauga but would gladly have the man for mayor with the good he is doing. A lot of people have to grow up.
Yes, it is believable that he would be that stupid. It’s less believable to me that people would even question if he could be that stupid at this point.
Another idiot who thinks we the people are as stupid as she is. Get a life there Sarah……Trying to get your fifteen minutes of fame? You are pathetic.
She claimed only one drink (beer), then witnesses said she was drinking scotch as well .She looks like she’s drunk happy in the pics. So I think she just imagined everything, and posted on FB while drunk.
If Ford is innocent, then his reaction is not a “…step in the wrong direction for women’s rights.” It is simply the reacton of an innocent person. If Ford is not innocent, then Sarah should make a complaint to the police and experience the full extent of the difficulties faced by assault victims. That would be a step in the right direction. I hope justice prevails in this matter.
Simple. Take the lie detector – it’s been offered, and for free at that. Then hire Clayton Ruby.
Lie detectors are inaccurate and inadmissable as evidence in a court of law… All it would do is provide a platform for one or the other to continue these unbelievable and unsubstantiated claims
Unfortunately, unless someone comes forward to back up Sarah, this will remain a “he said, she said”. I am finding the more that comes out about Rob Ford, the less I like him. I cannot take a side on this as more will need to come out.
ford looks wasted
Sarah – let it go. Rob Ford releases statements through common media for all to hear. You release your one sided story through Facebook to your loyal lefty followers. You don’t just hate the Mayor, you hate his supporters too.
So, let’s get this straight. This much publicized incident took place last week, about 5 days ago, and Thompson has chosen to talk about in on Facebook, and not to the police, or Mayor Ford himself, right at the time she claimed it happened? If someone grabs my rear end and I don’t like it, I speak up, immediately, and tell the person, immediately, not a day later, on Facebook, or through the media.
exactly, im all against women being sexually assaulted/groped but i am all against Sarah Thompson who is obviously praying on all the women to support her in her wild claims but she is unable to legitimately bring it to light (via police/courts) but rather post like a child on facebook and at the same time saying how shes supporting womens day.. i want to puke. Its glad to see that most women arent fooled by this trickery and are quick to arms over this non existent issue.
I wholeheartedly agree. If I am assaulted I would be calling the Police no matter where I am or what function is going on. Assault is assault. Being that Sarah Thompson is a public figure why would she not go to the Police? For her to talk about how women need to stand up for themselves and not be silenced, is she not doing just that. To me her actions are saying “Why bother going to the Police? No one is going to believe you.” I think she either needs to be the actual role model she says she is trying to be or stop with the one sided drama on social media.
I agree with Confused, james and Cynthia. I will add that I think if Rob Ford had grabbed Sarah’s ass, she would have been startled let out a shout or an expletive or some kind of noise and quickly turned around or moved forward. To me, that would be a normal reaction. As for those saying he looks drunk in the photo, consider this…he may have just blinked. And lastly, she doesn’t exactly look sober and notice her arm is flung across his shoulder. Just saying…….
