TORONTO, Ont. – A judge has acquitted a Toronto Drug Squad constable of assault after an incident seven years ago.
Constable Gerrard Arula-Nandam was accused of assault causing bodily harms and uttering threats against 29-year-old Shayne Fisher.
Fisher testified he suffered a fractured rib, perforated eardrum and swollen eye when seven officers executed a search warrant at a friend’s house.
The judge said difficulties with the Crown case left enough reasonable doubt to Arula-Nandam’s guilt that an acquittal was in order.
She was, however, concerned with what she called the drug squad’s behaviour and lack of truthfulness.

Debbie, next time you need help, call the fire department. A “Judge” found him Not Guilty, not the Police Service. I know you most likely do not understand this but we live in a “democracy”. You know—Innocent until “proven guilty”.
clark, I think Debbie knows that – there is no court system within the police service. and what she is saying is that police get off easily and you should observe that too. we all know that “not guilty” means no conviction, it is the fact that the police (as she observes) is almost always found NOT guilty by the courts. And as for your “innocent until proven guilty” comment, although we agree, hypothetically, if you were charged of a crime you did not commit and your picture was plastered on the news and papers, see how many people in society actually believe you’re innocent at that moment in time.
This does not surprise me at all what so ever.
Do you really think the cop would be found guilty? That’s a joke!
We have OPP here where we live. They are nasty! They drove a mother and a disabled son down dark farm roads and dumped them in Tottenham. This was in the winter with minus -32 weather and it was snowing and blowing.
The mother and the disabled son walked for hours trying to find their way back.
The mother filed a complaint against the officers and you know where that went!
