TORONTO – Toronto police have charged a 39-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman with second-degree murder after a man was discovered dead at an Etobicoke townhouse complex Wednesday.

Officers responded to a townhouse complex on Arbordell Road near Kipling Avenue and Westhumber Boulevard shortly after 8 a.m.

“Police arrived at the scene and found a 49-year-old man dead from trauma to his upper body and face,” said Det.-Sgt. Justin Vander Heyden.

Police said a 39-year-old man was attempting to leave the scene when officers arrested him.

Vander Heyden said the victim and the accused may have known each other.

“It appears that they were in the same apartment so I can assume at this point that they were friendly to each other at some point.”

“It’s still very early in the investigation,” he said.

“We are going to be interviewing people in the building as well as a witness that was in the apartment.”

Witnesses said there was a lengthy fight before the victim collapsed.

The victim’s identity is not yet known. Police are in the process of notifying next-of-kin.

Police say the identity of the victim and the accused “will not be released pending notification of the deceased’s next-of-kin.”
