The Special Investigations Unit has invoked their mandate after an incident in the Bancroft area, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.
The incident began when police were escorting a 25-year-old man from a home. As they were leaving the man reportedly picked up a weapon and struck one of the officers
At some point during the interaction, shots were fired. It is unclear if anyone was hit or who fired the shots, but the SIU generally investigates in incidents where someone is injured during interactions with police.
An injured officer, the suspect and another adult male were taken to Kingston General Hospital for treatment of injuries.
Little information is available as once the SIU invokes its mandate the police will not comment on the case.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident should contact the SIU.

Hope the officer is okay. Thoughts are with him,his family and colleagues. Always a stressful time when SIU is invoked, even if the officer is justified in their actions.
