Toronto has 51 outdoor artificial ice rinks, including one at Nathan Phillips Square.
All children under the age of six must wear a hockey helmet on city ice.
The outdoor rinks are compressor-cooled, which makes it possible for them to operate in a range of weather conditions, but the ice quality varies according to the outside temperature.
