WHITBY, Ont. – Durham Regional Police say the death of a Whitby man is no longer being treated as a homicide and has now been deemed suspicious.
Police found the 30-year-old with obvious signs of trauma in the basement of a house on McCullough Drive near Hwy. 401 and Brock Street South Saturday.
Police initially believed the man was killed in a fight, which would mark the first homicide of 2013 for Durham Region.
However, due to new evidence, police reclassified the death as suspicious Sunday.
Police said more tests are required to determine the cause of death.
No arrests have been made and police said they are not looking for suspects.
According to a CityNews report, a woman also sustained injuries in the incident. The woman went to a neighbour for assistance. She was transported to hospital but no details on the extent of her injuries were released.
Police have not identified the man.
