TORONTO, Ont. - A 25-year-old man was the latest victim of a fatal shooting in the Greater Toronto Area.
Toronto Police have identified the man as Thuan Nguyen, also known as Tony, of Toronto.
The man was shot around 5 a.m. Sunday outside a restaurant in the Weston Road and Steeles Avenue area, according to police.
Witnesses told CityNews the victim was exiting a restaurant on Signet Drive when a man exited a black vehicle and shot him. The suspect then fled the scene.
Those witnesses described the suspect as an Asian man.
“We have information of a dark vehicle leaving the area, we are investigating that information, conducting several interviews with people who were at this club and are still here with our officers,” said Inspector Tim Crone.
The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to EMS.
A post-mortem examination is yet to be scheduled.
Police believe the victim was at a club called “VY VY Restaurant and Lounge” at 425 Signet Drive prior to his death.
“Preliminary information has indicated that there was some kind of confrontation that took place in the parking lot, shots were fired and our victim has been pronounced,” Crone said.
Police have not yet speculated on what might have led to the shooting or how many suspects they may be pursuing.
Anyone with information should contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Two top stories involve shootings at Keele/Finch and Steeles/Weston. Not “North York” or “Etobicoke”. But let something happen east of Victoria (a huge area btw), it’s generically labelled “Scarborough” first, and the major intersection is buried in the story. Heck, even the story about the shooting on Dawes Road on Friday – Dawes is mostly in Toronto – only a few blocks extend east into Scarborough (shooting was in Toronto part, but the media reported it as Scarborough). There are good and bad areas in ALL of the former boroughs. It’s not right to use such broad strokes for any of these, but especially egregious to only single out Scarborough.
