TORONTO, Ont. – An 18-year-old man now faces a first-degree murder charge after a shooting in the parking lot of a night club killed a Brampton man.

Tony Hoang Dinh of Toronto now faces an upgraded charge of first-degree murder, Toronto police said Thursday. The man was initially charged Feb. 11 with 14 counts, including attempted murder with a firearm.

Naveed Shahnawaz, 19, died in hospital Feb. 15 after being shot during a fight Feb. 10 around 3 a.m. in the parking lot of the Muzik night club at Exhibition Place. A 23-year-old man was also shot.

Two other Toronto men were charged in connection with the shooting.

Jonathan Lau, 19, faces three charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Hoan Nguyen, 26, has been charged with one count of assault.

The Special Investigations Unit is probing the incident after responding police officers fired shots at a vehicle fleeing the scene.

The SIU investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
