OAKVILLE, Ont. – Halton police will be cracking down on drivers who speed on residential streets in Oakville as part of “Project Five-O.”
The blitz will for a one-week period starting on Feb. 21.
In a release, Halton police said, “officers will focus on residential streets that have been identified as having low driver compliance for the posted speed limit and for stop signs.”
On Feb. 13, a 40-year-old man from Richmond Hill, Ont., was caught driving 103 kilometres an hour on a 50-kilometre-an-hour residential street in Oakville. He was charged with stunt driving.

You want to catch speeders, check out Bridge Street and Sherin Drive 24/7 day and night, especially at night……most never obey the stop sign and it’s a busy crossing for kids back and forth to school – no crossing guard!!
Just don’t speed and then you’ll have no problems! I live on a fairly busy residential bus route and the posted limit is 50km/h. EVERY DAY I drive the speed limit and EVERY DAY I am being tailgated, sometimes even passed on the right side which is a bicycle lane!! I hope to see the cops out every day and I hope they pull LOTS of people over. The craziness has to stop!!
I lived in Oakville for 3 years on a fairly busy bus route that was often treated like a drag strip… this is a good idea. Get the cops off the cash cow speed traps like the Upper Middle bridge over Glen Abbey and get onto the residential streets to protect kids.
When will the police ever justify these blitzes with facts? How many vehicles travel this street(s) daily? How many were speeding? How many charges were laid? How many accidents / incidents have occurred on these streets? How many cyclists and pedestrians were also cited for violating the highway traffic act? How many police will be participating in this blitz? Until such times they start actually justifying their existence for these media blitzes, to me, this has little to do with safety but more to do with a revenue grab.
I’ll believe IF I see it. Oakville cops like to keep a low profile… until you park your car.
Target cyclists that blow through stops signs! I also agree with Foulds. Why do they always make things like this news? Why warn the people who usually speed through there?
Why should it be headline news when police advertise that they are about to do their job?
The lack of police presence in our towns and cities and the souring police services bills are becoming “unsustainable”.
Is it time to privatize policing and bring back some accountability and affordability to this “public service”?
Are you for real? Privatizing police services is the dumbest idea I have heard yet today. Have you seen the kind of abuse committed by “private contractors” in Iraq and Afghanistan? Mercenaries, pure and simple. Goons with guns, and I for one wouldn’t stand for it. There are some things that are simply too important to privatize but it seems some people find that difficult to grasp.
Usually they are not from Oakville but from other areas of GTA. I am pleased the police finally is taking action.
maybe they can add to their action to also target people that roll through stop signs
