MANIWAKI, Que. – Two teenagers are scheduled to appear in juvenile court today in connection with the kidnapping of two seniors at a Quebec home over the weekend.
Police say a 70-year-old woman and 65-year-old man were taken Friday from their home near Maniwaki, a small town northwest of Montreal, and driven to a barn about 150 kilometres away.
Investigators say the kidnapping was motivated by theft — and that a computer, wallet and money were stolen from the home.
They also allege the teens stole the couple’s vehicle, which was recovered Saturday in Pembroke, Ontario.
A 16-year-old Ottawa boy was arrested nearby shortly afterward, while a 17-year-old boy later surrendered to police in Quebec.
Police say the seniors suffered only minor injuries and managed to get to safety early Saturday morning after the suspects fled.
