Bloody cricket bat found in Oscar Pistorius’ home: media reports

New details are emerging in the case against Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius, who stands accused of murdering his model girlfriend.

Reeva Steenkamp was shot several times on Valentine’s Day in Pistorius’ home in South African, according to authorities.

There are now new allegations in South African newspapers, according to ABC’s Bazi Kanani.

“Steenkamp may have been trying to save herself by running into a bathroom when she was shot through the door,” Kanani said.

“Local media was told a bloodied cricket bat found in the home is now part of the investigation,” she added.

It was not initially clear whose blood was on the bat, which has been seized by forensic investigators.

The reports come only one day after Pistorius’ uncle insisted his nephew’s name will be cleared.

“I can promise you, with the knowledge I’ve got, he will come up right,” the uncle said.

Steenkamp’s body is now back in her hometown, where a private funeral will be held Tuesday.

That is the same day that Pistorius will return to court.
