The protesters were escorted out of city hall one by one Friday night. The demonstrators did not resist.

Dozens of demonstrators from the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty as well as several homeless people arrived with blankets and sleeping bags to protest a lack of space in Toronto homeless shelters.

Earlier Friday, demonstrators said they would stay until the city addresses the issue in homeless shelters.

Coun. Adam Vaughan spoke to the demonstrators earlier.

“I will bring a motion forward — and hopefully, the speaker will allow it to be introduced — for an emergency debate on this issue,” he told the protesters.

“Hopefully, now with the promise that we’re going to try and act next week, there’s reason for people to move on calmly and to allow the political process to respond to the pressing issues they’ve raised,” Vaughan told 680News.

Ford was not in his office but when asked about the protest at the Canadian International Auto Show said that “the shelter beds aren’t even full.”
