TORONTO, Ont. – The Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a 22-year-old cyclist was struck by a vehicle being pursued by Toronto police Wednesday, leaving her with a broken leg.
According to the SIU, officers pulled over a vehicle on Queen Street West at 4:30 p.m. but the car drove off when the officers approached on foot.
The SIU said the fleeing car was struck by another vehicle at the corner of Queen Street and Augusta Avenue, then lost control and crashed into the cyclist, who was taken to hospital to treat a broken leg.
The 24-year-old driver fled the scene on foot but was apprehended soon after and taken to hospital with a jaw injury, the SIU said. An occupant from the other vehicle was taken to hospital with a shoulder injury.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the SIU.
The SIU investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
