TORONTO – A 15-year-old boy has died in hospital after being shot in the Jane Street and Finch Avenue West area Monday night, Toronto police confirm to 680News.
The teen was shot in the torso at around 10:30 p.m. Monday night inside a third-floor apartment, located at 40 Turf Grassway.
Police are questioning three persons of interest, but so far, no charges have been laid.
Residents in the building told 680News the victim was nicknamed “Tubby.”
The teen is the third young person to be killed in the GTA in less than a month.
On Jan. 18, Central Tech football player Tyson Bailey, 15, was shot to death in a stairwell in a Regent Park apartment building.
Then on Jan. 23, Kesean Williams, 9, died in Brampton after a single gunshot pierced the window of his home.
Councillor Adam Vaughan, who has been pressing for a bullet ban for a while now, told 680News this is heartbreaking.
“It does so much damage and so many people in the community are torn apart too. We have to start looking at ways to combat this,” Vaughan said.
The city’s executive committee dismissed Vaughan’s bullet ban idea last summer.

I live 3 blocks from Jane & Finch, These little punks are out all night doing god knows what.
Police need to do more raids, more patrol , and more investigation in this area. In this area ANY little issue turns into a GUN fight. I know I could hear the guns go off all the time.
Instead of paying teachers more ….. Police need to be paid more, have more of them in troubled
areas. I’ve seen parents of children who in in this area…… they don’t care …… they let their kids do what they want .There is no such thing as parenting in this area.
Gun bans and bullet bans have the same drawback. Criminals don’t abide by them. Do you think the gun was registered to a legal handgun owner or something? What happens when the bullet ban doesn’t work? A finger ban so they can’t pull the trigger? An eye ban so they can’t aim?
How about addressing the real problem; broken and corrupt immigration policies.
Yesterday, the news said it was at Jane and Sheppard area, which is a little ways from Finch. Did the news decide that it was better if the shooting was re-announced in the Jane and Finch area? Better glorification of a shooting, in an area well known for shootings and gang violence? Media needs to be more responsible. Some people’s grief shouldn’t be someone else’s profit. Or manipulating people’s views isn’t telling it like it is.
That being said, my condolences to this boy’s family. Perhaps parents need to stop coddling and over protecting their children. So that they don’t grow up feeling they are missing out on things, and have more of a tendency to rebel and hang out with the wrong crowd. And communities to pay more attention to the youth. Provide out reach programs, extra curricular activities (which means parents need to learn to let go of their kids so they can go to these programs). Just think how it was just 20 years ago. Parents weren’t so paranoid, kids were out and about on their own (much more than this time), communities kept an eye out for each other. Where kids would get disciplined by a non-parent, and the parents wouldn’t sue. They’d reinforce the discipline. And this was in a time were crime rate was much higher than it is today. The glorification of media for profit, the rise in fear because of rampant news coverage of anything and everything, everywhere, and the decline of common sense and logic, have made society the paranoid and ill informed people they have become. It’s ironic how we’ve advanced so much in technology, yet the smarter tech becomes, the more ignorant people become.
Hey Adam, how about coaching kids in a sport, say football, oh wait thats right, you have a problem with that. Instaed of saying we need to do something Adam, how about actually doing something for once.
We are getting as bad as our neighbors to the south. And in a short period of time to, this local violence has been escalating for the past couple of years. Lets raise the price of individual bullets…$250 each should do it.
