Large coyote killed in Cabbagetown

A large coyote spotted in Cabbagetown has been killed, according to Toronto police.

Residents of the downtown community were startled to see a large coyote roaming their neighbourhood on Monday night.

The animal was spotted near Carlton and Sackville streets, east of Parliament, around 9 p.m.

Police arrived in the area just in time to see the coyote run into a ravine near Wellesley Park.

A short pursuit ensued and police fired a warning shot to get the animal to return to the woods however officials say the animal returned to the community and due to its aggressive behavior, the animal was shot and killed on Monday night.

Police say there was not enough time to contact Animal Services.

Toronto Animal Services said coyotes have been more active because of the relatively mild winter, but it’s normal to see them in the city.
