Senator Mike Duffy is facing criticism after dodging reporters following a speech in Halifax Wednesday night.
Reporters were looking for comments on the controversy surrounding where the senator lives, but Duffy evaded reporters by leaving through a hotel kitchen and out the back door.
Duffy represents P.E.I., and has claimed tens of thousands of dollars in living allowances even though he been living at a home in Ottawa.
Duffy needs to come clean to the Canadian public, according to Liberal P.E.I. MP Wayne Easter:
“He’s actually my senator, he lives in my riding,” Easter said. “He has a responsibility as a representative appointed by Stephen Harper to answer to the puiblic, to answer to the media. That’s his job, he should’nt be running away and hiding in the bushes,” he said.
Both oppositions parties are questioning why Duffy claims to be a P.E.I. resident but does not have a health card or driver’s licence from the province. Members of the NDP say if he is not a resident, they want him to pay back the $41,000 he has been collecting in living allowance.
So far, Duffy has not responded to criticisms.
