TORONTO, Ont. – An investigation in underway at the Toronto Community Housing Corporation.
New CEO Gene Jones said an audit was conducted because of tips of possible misconduct between staff and vendors.
In a news conference Wednesday, Jones said the audit found some holes in the system.
“We have a pattern where we think there may be some kickbacks, some improprieties, maybe double billing, some shoddy work and so forth,” Jones said.
“Now we want to get the bottom of this.”
According to Jones, he received complaints from residents and staff and an anonymous tip in late 2012 about “alleged improprieties and wrongdoing involving some staff and vendors who do repairs and maintenance.”
This prompted him to hire an outside firm to conduct a review.
At this point, no wrongdoing has been proven and no disciplinary action has been taken.
