Police, Fire and Enbridge were on the scene Monday night after an accident in Vaughan which lead to a gas leak.

All residents have been allowed to return to their homes just before midnight Monday.

The gas leak happened around 8:30 p.m. on Monday at Rutherford and Velmar, west of Weston Road.

Police told 680News that a driver hit a pole and then a tree, taking out the gas line in the process.

Officers evacuated eight homes in the area. Police told CityNews that the evacuation will remain in place until the gas leak is fixed.

The driver was not seriously injured. Police aren’t sure what caused the accident.
