A group of protesters blocked a Canadian Pacific railway line on Sunday as they demanded the shut down of a uranium processing plant on Landsdowne Avenue.
About two dozen people held signs and chanted on the tracks at Bartlett Avenue, in the Dupont and Dundas streets area.
The Committee for Future Generations say the GE Hitachi uranium processing plant must be shut down immediately and that uranium extraction violates the human rights of all Canadians, native and non-native.
“We are hugely at risk from the nuclear fuel chain and it’s got to stop,” One protester told CityNews. “The plant puts plumes up into the air or uranium emissions. They will only admit to a certain amount of uranium emissions. We want their data.”
There has been no word on how long the protest will last.
GO Transit users are not affected by the protest.
