There’s been a huge multi-vehicle crash on the eastbound 401 in the Woodstock area.
The eastbound lanes of the 401 near the Woodstock area have reopened at Foldens Line.
A 680News listener was travelling in the other direction and said there was a snow squall at the time.
“There were lots of different vehicles, a lot of transport trucks, some of them turned backwards, others slid off the edge. There were SUVs, regular cars, bumpers torn off, sides smashed in and glass broken,” Michael Kowalek, an associate producer with Rogers TV in London who was at the crash site, explained.
Despite the extensive damage, there are reports of only minor injuries.
The cell-phone video below was submitted to CityNews.ca by viewer Christian Grossi.
“It always amazes me when people walk away from these catastrophic collisions, “ said OPP Sergeant Dave Rektor. “You know they are so preventable that’s one of the aggravating factors.”
Police said people were not adjusting their driving to the snowy road conditions.

Where is the video that is supposed to be below?
This is another case of persons not driving according to the weather conditions and they are blaming the conditions. There is no way you should have so many vehicles involved in a crash like this. Drivers are obviously not looking way ahead of them and adjusting their speed, but bolting along as if it is summer. They seem to just look only a few hundred meters in front.Even if it does, there should only be a few vehicles involved at the begining. Do you see how some of these drivers go along the highway during winter, especially the truck drivers?
At least he wasn’t filming and driving…..but good grief the rubbernecking is unbelievable!!! Look how much he turned his head WHILE HE WAS DRIVING!!!!!
Wow, talk about rubber necking. How about watching your own side of the road.
Sunny here in Cobourg with a good wind though. There are always accidents around that area of the 401 in the winter. People going way to fast, will they ever learn ?
