TORONTO – Residents forced out of their homes in a downtown highrise after a fire will find out Thursday when they’ll be able to return to their units.
Firefighters were called to 914 and 920 Yonge St., just north of Davenport Road, around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday to deal with a hydro vault fire that sent smoke billowing up to the 14th floor.
The building houses both residential units and businesses on the ground floor, including an emergency veterinary clinic. About 20 animals had to be removed from the clinic during the response.
No injuries were reported.
Residents of the building were only allowed back into their homes briefly to grab some essentials. Crews continue to work to pump water out of the basement so hydro workers can get in to make repairs.

I was deeply saddened to hear that the VEC was affected by this accident.
Shortly before this incident at Yonge and Davenport… my dear baby girl Shylo was well loved and taken care of by all staff and head vets at this VEC location(Thankyou).
I don’t know what i would have done the night i had to rush my baby to this 24 hr pet hospital and its absence I’m sure is being felt.
The cost of having/treating and or saving a pet is sinfully high, but these people at the VEC are experts(perhaps the best in their field)…so my feelings lean more towards that of gratitude regardless of the price…much money can be spent on things of lesser value.
My hope is that this accident does not negatively impact all those involved(pets included) for much longer.
Karma, I feel sorry for the people in the building and relief for the animals. The karma is for the staff of the Vet Clinic, I know first hand that they only care about money not the animals. If you do not have money when you walk in they do not even let you see a doctor
Yeah you are right. Displacing humans and generallly causing havok with completely innocent people is all karma because you are butt hurt that a BUSINESS did not want to do business for free because you wanted it. You are a sick person.
