Security video showing a physical confrontation between a Barrie police officer and a 25-year-old man was released by the courts on Tuesday.

Constable Jason Nevill claimed he was “fighting for his life” during an altercation with Jason Stern outside a Barrie mall on Nov. 20, 2010.  Nevill claimed it was only after Stern kneed him in the groin that he used force.

The case was investigated by the Ontario Provincial Police who now claim Nevill was lying. The officer was then charged with assault causing bodily harm, fabricating evidence and obstruction of justice.

A security camera caught the altercation, which begins with Nevill and Stern talking outside the mall with two security guards. The video then shows the Stern being beaten and shoved to the ground by Nevill and the security guards before being handcuffed and charged with public intoxication.

The charges against Stern were later dropped and Nevill was been suspended from duty with pay.

The case has been adjourned until April.
