Security video showing a physical confrontation between a Barrie police officer and a 25-year-old man was released by the courts on Tuesday.
Constable Jason Nevill claimed he was “fighting for his life” during an altercation with Jason Stern outside a Barrie mall on Nov. 20, 2010. Nevill claimed it was only after Stern kneed him in the groin that he used force.
The case was investigated by the Ontario Provincial Police who now claim Nevill was lying. The officer was then charged with assault causing bodily harm, fabricating evidence and obstruction of justice.
A security camera caught the altercation, which begins with Nevill and Stern talking outside the mall with two security guards. The video then shows the Stern being beaten and shoved to the ground by Nevill and the security guards before being handcuffed and charged with public intoxication.
The charges against Stern were later dropped and Nevill was been suspended from duty with pay.
The case has been adjourned until April.

Suspended with pay! Must be nice. A cop is caught on video assaulting and injuring a private citizen in an unprovoked attack, he deliberately arrests the victim for committing an indictable offence he knows the victim did not commit, he continued to obstruct justice by falsifying his incident report, and what does his police service do? They suspend him with pay, courtesy of your tax dollars, so he can sit at home watching soap operas all afternoon and sleep-in every day.
NICE!
All three of these stooges should be charged and dismissed without pay. But the one who deserves the harshest discipline is Nevill, he undoubtably has anger issues, which likely drove him to be a cop in the first place. Same goes for the cop wannabes that “helped” him.
Jay and Debbie,
May the angels above watch over you all and your new family.
May justice prevail. Find strength in each other and everything will be ok. You will all be in our prayers.

The officer should get a life sentence, the 2 security guards should do some time in jail and the judge, and all other politicians dragging this out should lose their jobs. I never understand why when video is involved they waste time in court. There is a video of this, the cop is guilty, stop wasting everyones time including the victim. The system is to complicated. Some people will disagree with the life sentence, but when put into context, this office is to serve and protect – he should get life. Make you a bet stories like this wouldn’ happen if we had real punishments.
Disgusting act on behalf of the officer who should be ashamed, to say the least…and the security guards??? disgusting to see them join in and hold the victim down while being beaten!! They should be punished also in my opinion. To see this video and know that actions of this sort probably do happen more than we public know….disgraceful!!
Really?! Even after irrefutable evidence, this guy is still being paid? Wow. And authorities wonder why people don’t have much faith in the justice system. I guess crime DOES pay. This guy is a disgrace to the uniform, and is a criminal. And should be treated as such. The law is the law, if it’s the law at all.
with pay?! what’s wrong with the justice system? this is seriously disturbing, when a policeman assulted cilviliance, and arrest the person, then lied about it, should he/she be hold more accountable and punished more harshly, not sheltered and be send on paid vacation!!?? This is what our tax money are for? to send those asshole policemen on paid vacation as “punishment” for wrongly beating up people?
The only way to make this situation right is for the judge to throw the book at Jason Nevill. He is a disgrace not only to every single Police Officer in Canada, but to his community and Canada as a whole. To think that if this video had not surfaced, the victim here would have been subject to possibly spending 2 years in prison makes my blood boil. Jason Nevill is a criminal, plain and simple.
