TORONTO – It’s been almost a week since the start of the shortened NHL season, and the numbers show most fans are not holding a grudge post-lockout and are watching and spending in record numbers.
Data released by Moneris shows that in Canadian cities where home games were played, there was an almost nine per cent increase in credit card spending before and during the games this past weekend (Jan. 19-20).
In Toronto, overall spending at local bars increased by more than 12 per cent increase, when compared to the previous weekend (Jan. 12-13) — even though the Maple leafs didn’t have their home-opener until Monday.
During the lengthy lockout, fans had said they would boycott the NHL once the season re-started.

You gotta be kidding me. ”Yes sir, may I please have another?” When will people stand up for themselves and their rights to determine what is a fair useage of their money (be it the NHL, the Ontario teachers, or the various levels of govt.) But I guess it just wouldn’t be Canadian of us if we did something other than complain about how unions and govt ruin everything we enjoy but we’re happy to give them more money when they ask for it.
It is THEIR money after all. I’ve seen worse things that people spend their money on. What does that have to do with standing up for themselves?
