Stop complaining already geez ppl get a life seriously. Life isn’t always fair deal with.
@Judy Asfour & @BG – On January 1 and on *all* statutory holidays, using your logic, then shut down all the restaurants, taxis, movie theatres, airlines, etc. so that those employees can have some “quality time” with their families and not have to cater to your sorry, self-entitled asses.
I’ve never gone to a restaurant, a movie, or used an airline on a stat holiday. Your “self-entitled asses” remark is more applicable to those who want to go shopping anytime the urge strikes them. Your argument falls apart when you denigrate quality time for families by putting it in quotes. Have a happy New Year and try not to be so sour this time.
LCBO and Beer stores closed on biggest shopping day of the year!!!!
Bring on PRIVATIZATION!
Canadian law is very specific as to what can and can’t be open on stat holidays, and the LCBO not being open has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that it is not privatized. You’ll note that most shopping centres are closed, and they’re privately, corporately run locations. You need specific designations to remain open on a stat holiday.
Also, don’t you think that people who work in retail deserve a day off while you have a day off from your job? Since when should they be at your beck and call?

What a shame that crass commercialism has taken over our holidays. God forbid that we have real quality time with family and friends!

Sounds great if you want to be served by surly and hungover retail clerks. I hope Bramalea City Centre loses money by opening on January 1. I refuse to patronize stores or malls that open on statutory holidays. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
