VAUGHAN, Ont. – Two men beat and tied up an elderly couple in Vaughan, before taking their Christmas presents from beneath the tree, York region police say.
Police said the two suspects broke into the home on Jeanne Drive, near Willis Road and Pine Valley Drive around 3 a.m. Saturday.
The suspects — one armed with a blunt metal object — assaulted the elderly couple and demanded cash and jewelry from the homeowners, police said.
The couple gave them cash and were then tied up with clothing.
The suspects ransacked the home and took all of the Christmas presents from under the tree, police said.
The couple, a 75-year-old woman and 78-year-old man, untied themselves and went to a neighbour’s house where they called police.
Both were taken to hospital and the woman was released a short time later. The man suffered a non-life threatening head wound.
The suspects are described as black men, both with a thin build and wearing dark clothing.
One man was about 6’2 and the other man was 5’10.

Such a shame that this couple have to live with this scary experience during Christmas time which is THE time of the year when most of us are a little kinder and more generous than at any other time of the year. I pray that the Christ of Christmas will heal the rotten memories and give them a particularly special time with their dear ones…and that the situation will be turned around for good instead of evil. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
