‘Brave’ bank customer being credited for foiling robbery in Welland

Niagara Regional Police are crediting a ‘brave’ customer with foiling a bank robbery Friday afternoon in the Welland area.
The incident began when a man entered the bank shortly after noon. He was armed with a black handgun and approached a teller demanding money.
It was then police say a customer, who was already being tended to by the clerk, struggled briefly with the would-be robber, who fled without obtaining any money.
The customer was not injured in the scuffle.
The suspect is described as a white male with a medium build, standing about 5’10” tall with a hooded sweater covering his face.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
