Man critically hurt in apartment fire on Dufferin Street

A man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a fire at a building on Dufferin Street near Davenport Road Thursday morning.
Firefighters found smoke pouring out of a second-floor window when they arrived at 1490 Dufferin St. around 2:30 a.m. The building was evacuated and TTC buses were brought to the scene to shelter residents.
Firefighters managed to douse the blaze quickly.
The victim was taken to hospital for severe smoke inhalation, where he remains in critical condition.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
