Ontario school teachers to wear black arm bands in honour of Connecticut shooting victims

Elementary school teachers in the province will wear black arm bands on Monday to honour the victims of the horrific Connecticut shooting.

Even those teachers walking the picket line have been asked to wear arm bands, and will observe a moment of silence at 9 a.m.

Reporter Carl Hanstke went to Bloor Village where he spoke to parents, many of whom were still shaken-up by the shooting.

“You try not to imagine it happening to your own kids, but you sometimes can’t help but imagine when you see it in the news,” said one man.

Many parents said talking to their children about the shooting was extremely difficult.

“I try not to, I won’t even mention it to my daughter because she’s too young,” one parent said.

School officials reminded parents that doors remain locked at Ontario elementary schools to keep out unwanted intruders, adding that lockdown drills have been practiced.
