A pair of young women were seriously hurt when their Jeep crashed into a traffic light post in Scarborough early Sunday morning.

It happened at Ellesmere and Bellamy roads around 1 a.m.

Police say two women in their 20s were taken to Sunnybrook hospital with serious injuries.

Hydro crews were called in to remove the traffic light and the intersection was closed to traffic for several hours.

There has been no speculation on the cause of the crash.
