KINGSTON, Ont. – Two Kingston men are facing a laundry list of charges after a rash of coin thefts from buildings in the city’s downtown area.
In 29 incidents since October, police say suspects broke into residential buildings, forced their way into laundry machine coin compartments to steal the coins.
The method, locations and time frames of the incidents led police to believe the same suspects were responsible for all the thefts and detectives were also able to view surveillance images taken on Dec. 7.
Robert Lefebvre, 48, and Jason Murphy, 36, face a combined total of 90 charges including multiple counts of break and enter, theft under $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.
Lefebvre is also charged with breach of probation and Murphy with breach of undertaking.
The pair attended a bail hearing Thursday and were remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
