Ontario Provincial Police have expressed their concern over too many motorists continuing to ignore warnings about drinking and driving during the Festive R.I.D.E. campaign.
OPP Sergeant Dave Woodford told CityNews Channel drivers still aren’t getting the message, two weeks into the holiday program, and impaired driving continues to be a major factor in deaths on Ontario roads.
“The numbers aren’t really that great. I didn’t think they would be actually that high,” he said, Tuesday. “284 charges have been laid on OPP-patrolled highways, so still a lot of work to do.”
Officers have also issued 275 administrative driver’s license suspensions for registering a blood-alcohol concentration in the warning range.
Woodford said there’s no excuse to be irresponsible, especially with all of the OPP’s media campaigns aimed at discouraging drinking and driving.
The R.I.D.E. campaign continues through to January 2.
