For families with time off work ahead of the holidays or children affected by rotating teacher strikes, one way to enjoy some time is to head up north to the slopes.

Horseshoe Valley and Moonstone Mount St. Louis ski resorts have several runs open already, and Blue Mountain will be opening for the season on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
