WHITBY, Ont. – A 20-year-old man faces charges after police say an officer was choked at a bar east of Toronto.
Durham regional police say officers responded to a call of male patrons causing a disturbance at a Whitby bar around 2:25 a.m. Saturday.
They allege one of the men jumped an officer from behind and started to choke him while police were in the process of arresting a second man who they say refused to leave.
The officer was taken to hospital for a checkup but was not injured in the incident.
Cameron Peck of Port Hope is charged with assaulting a peace officer and causing a disturbance.
A second man was arrested but released unconditionally.
