It’s unclear what caused the death of three polar bear cubs, born at the Toronto Zoo last week.

A zoo official said the mother, 11-year-old Aurora, was nursing the two female cubs after the male had died earlier, and all had been going well.

Post-mortem tissue samples have been sent out for analysis.

The zoo official said there are many possible reasons for the deaths because the cubs are born so small.

Aurora is the same bear who killed two of her three newborn cubs last year.
